Q. If I take both, isn't this just another blend?
A. Not quite. You see, live culture blends will have a total concentration (CFU) that's their end goal, and so you can divide that concentration by the number of bacteria in there. So if it's a 20BN CFU blend, but it has 5 bacteria, that's only 4BN of each one! At Better Guts both our products come in high concentrations of 12BN CFU, so you know that even though you're taking 2, you're not sacrificing on the numbers, and getting a dose of both that means you get the benefits of both. It really is the best of both worlds!
Q. Is this supplement suitable for Children?
A. The live cultures we use have decades of very solid clinical evidence in babies, toddlers, and children of all ages as well as pregnant women. However, the doses used in these studies were typically less than those we use. Our products are really intended for adults due to their strength, so, if you want to use them for your children, we recommend using a half dose of 1 capsule per day, and seeking the advice of your doctor or healthcare practitioner prior to use.
Q. Why do I feel a bit bloated/gassy?
A. When new bacteria enter your gut they let off a little gas as they settle into their new home, this is perfectly normal and is common as you gut microbiome shifts. If you have a little too much gas try cutting the serving to 1 capsule instead of 2 for a couple of weeks.
Q. Why single strain? Is it better than a blend?
A. When you have a blend of different bacteria sometimes these bacteria can compete, reducing effectiveness and sometimes increasing bloating. As well as this when you have a 10BN CFU supplement with 12 strains there isn’t that much of each strain in there! That’s why we went with one strain, backed by solid clinical research, in a high strength formula for a supplement to cut through the noise for precision and clarity.
Q. What are ‘prebiotic fibres’? Why?
A. Prebiotic fibres are plant-based nutrients that your body doesn’t digest, but your gut microbes can use as fuel. By feeding the bacteria already living in your digestive system, prebiotics can help support a balanced gut environment and a healthy, diverse microbiome. We use two gentle, well-studied prebiotic fibres: FOS (fructooligosaccharides) and XOS (xylooligosaccharides), both sourced from plants, to help create the conditions where beneficial bacteria can thrive. Think of it as sending the good bacteria in with a packed lunch!
Q. Will it actually work?
A. The bacteria we use are backed by decades of clinical research that have explored their effects in humans in a wide array of different clinical settings and in the context of various health conditions. Throughout these studies they have shown consistently positive results, that’s why we chose them, meaning you can trust that you’re taking a supplement backed by gold standard scientific research. Q. What is ‘Delayed Release’?
A. Most supplements just use regular capsules. The problem with this is that they can break down too early, releasing the bacteria into your stomach, where your stomach acid often kills them. We use HPMC capsules, studied and proven to withstand the stomach acid and protect their contents in the process. This ensures that the capsule releases the bacteria in your gut, not your stomach, to ensure that they can get to work where they’re needed most!
